What does lower-middle-market mean? There are different definitions, but we typically don’t define a client by size but by who the buyer will be. Almost every time, our clients sell to professional buyers. These buyers could be strategic buyers who are already in the space but are looking for new products or services possibly in a new geography. They could be a private equity group that may or may not have experience in industry. They could be a family office that has capital they need to deploy in an operating business. They could be an experienced industry operator that has financial backing.
